Filler Dissolving
Filler migration or poor placement happens — and when it does, Hylenex dissolves unwanted filler safely so you can start fresh.
What Is Filler Dissolving
Hylenex is an injectable enzyme (hyaluronidase) used to dissolve hyaluronic acid (HA) filler. If filler has been overdone, migrated, placed incorrectly, or just isn't sitting right, Hylenex allows us to break it down safely and precisely. Think of it as the "undo button" for HA filler.
It works by breaking apart the HA molecules so your body can naturally absorb and clear them. The process starts quickly—often within 24–48 hours—with full results developing over the next several days. Depending on the area and how much filler is present, more than one session may be needed to fully correct it.
At Maintenance Bar, Hylenex is part of responsible injecting. Whether we're refining our own work or correcting previous filler, the goal is always the same: restore balance and get you back to a natural, undetectable result.
How Filler Dissolving Works at Maintenance Bar
Hylenex Injection
Hylenex is injected precisely into the areas where filler needs to be broken down. We take a targeted, conservative approach—this isn't about wiping everything out, it's about correcting what's not working.
Enzyme action and absorption
Hylenex starts breaking down HA filler immediately. Most dissolution is complete with 24-48 hours.
Post Hylenex
We'll check in a few days later to see how everything is responding and decide if another round of Hylenex is needed. If you're planning to refill, we typically recommend waiting at least 3 weeks before adding more filler.
What to Expect from Filler Dissolving at Maintenance Bar
You'll start to see changes quickly—most patients notice softening within 24–48 hours as the filler begins to break down. That said, don't panic if it looks a little fuller at first. Temporary swelling can happen and is completely normal.
Dissolving is ideal for areas where filler isn't sitting right—think migration above the lip line, overfilled lips or cheeks, under-eye filler that looks blue or puffy (Tyndall), asymmetry, or filler that just… didn't age well.
Most cases improve significantly with one session, but some areas (especially thicker or more cross-linked fillers) may need a second round. Once everything has fully settled—we can talk about re-treating with a more strategic, conservative approach.
Hylenex is the reset button. When filler has migrated, been overdone, or just isn't sitting right, dissolving gives us the chance to clear it out and start fresh—with better placement, better strategy, and better results.
Who Benefits from Filler Dissolving at Maintenance Bar
The best candidates for Hylenex are patients who know something feels… off. This usually looks like:
- "My lips look puffy or like there's filler sitting above the lip line"
- "My cheeks look heavy or unnatural"
- "There's a weird fullness that wasn't there before"
- "My under-eyes look blue, swollen, or worse than before filler"
- "I feel like I look overfilled or not like myself anymore"
It's also a great option for patients who've had filler for years and feel like things have built up over time—or for anyone who just wants a clean slate before doing it the right way.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will dissolving filler hurt?
We numb you prior to injection, but you will still feel a stinging and burning sensation. The procedure is very quick!
The procedure itself is quick — typically 15–30 minutes depending on the area and volume being dissolved.
Can you dissolve filler from another provider?
Yes, however if you are dissolving a lot of filler then we would recommend that you go back to the injector who treated you. This is because they have record of exactly where they placed the filler.
Your provider assesses the existing product without judgment and creates a dissolution plan based on anatomy — not opinions about previous treatment decisions.
Will my face look deflated after dissolving?
Filler can mask underlying volume loss for years. Once it's dissolved, that loss is no longer being "held up," so the face can temporarily look flatter or more hollow.
How many dissolving sessions will I need?
Usually 1-2 sessions are needed, but occasionally more. It depends on what type of filler was used, how much, and how long it has been sitting in the tissue.
Can hyaluronidase dissolve all types of filler?
Hyaluronidase only dissolves hyaluronic acid-based fillers — brands like Juvederm, Restylane, and Belotero. Non-HA fillers like Sculptra or Radiesse cannot be enzymatically dissolved. Maintenance Bar identifies your filler type during consultation before proceeding.
